Rangers vs Real Madrid, Rangers coach Steven Gerrard said he was satisfied to be able to bring his team to beat Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly on Sunday local time or Monday (26/7/2021) early morning hrs.
In a match at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow, Rangers made by Steven Gerrard managed to beat Real Madrid 2-1. The result also tarnished coach Carlo Ancelotti’s debut in his second spell in charge of Los Blancos.
Rodrygo Goes had put Real Madrid ahead eight minutes into the game and Rangers had to wait until the second half to hit back with Fashion Sakala.
After Los Blancos were forced to finish with 10 men due to Nacho Fernandez receiving a second yellow card, the hosts used it to seal the win through Cedric Itten’s goal.
“First and foremost, we deserved to win and we were outstanding all weekend,” Steven Gerrard told Rangers TV.
Gerrard is aware that pre-season results can not always be the basis for the performance of the two teams that compete, considering that their respective squads are still incomplete.
However, he still appreciates his players, who Gerrard said managed to apply the instructions and style of play that he expected.
“We’ve had precious minutes being important players and we’ve shown a level of possession that I really like,” said Gerrard.
For Rangers, this is no different than a victory that injects confidence as they welcome the 150th anniversary of their founding in March next year.
The victory is also clearly a big improvement compared to the last meeting between the two teams which ended with a landslide score of 7-0 for Real Madrid in the two legs of the 1963/64 Champions Cup pre-elimination phase.
“Those are two good finishes from the players and they will get a lot of credit, but for me, I’m more than happy with the two performances from everyone over the weekend.”
